Compact Ball Screw Linear Actuator integrates servo motor, lead screw and converts the rotary motion of servo motor into linear motion. Compact ball screw linear actuators convert rotary motor motion into precise linear displacement through a recirculating ball screw mechanism integrated inside a compact housing. The actuator combines guide rails, bearing blocks, screw shafts, and drive interfaces into a rigid linear motion platform with reduced installation space.

This linear module integrates a precision ball screw assembly directly into the motor rotor or a minimalist housing to minimize installation dimensions.

Design feature of Linear Modules:

Compact Design: it integrates a stepper motor with a linear ball screw into a compact body, reducing the need for conventional parts and simplifying both installation and maintenance.
Built-in Guide and Anti-Spin Mechanism: Many compact linear actuators come with built-in guides, eliminating the need for external anti-spin mechanisms and further reducing the parts needed for designing applications. This feature enhances the overall compactness and ease of installation.

FAQs about Compact Ball Screw Linear Actuators

  1. How do you mount a miniature ball screw actuator in a tight space?
Use a flange nut design integrated into the actuator housing. Many models include threaded mounting holes on the nut body or a T-slot extrusion for side mounting. You can also choose fixed-fixed or fixed-free end supports.
  2. Which motor types couple with miniature ball screw linear actuators?
Stepper motors, brushless DC servos, brushed DC motors, and coreless DC motors all couple directly or via a gearhead. Hybrid steppers provide best open-loop positioning.
  3. Do miniature ball screw actuators require a mechanical brake?
Only for vertical applications where load can back-drive the screw. Without a brake, low lead screws (≤2 mm) offer some self-locking, but you still need a brake for safety holding torque.
  4. What makes a compact ball screw linear actuator different from a belt actuator?
A ball screw actuator delivers higher positioning accuracy and thrust force. The screw mechanism reduces backlash and improves repeatability. Belt actuators support higher speed over longer travel distances. Compact ball screw models suit precision automation and controlled motion tasks.
  5. Which industries use compact ball screw linear actuators?
Manufacturers use these actuators in semiconductor equipment, medical devices, robotics, laboratory systems, inspection machines, and automated assembly lines. Compact dimensions support installations inside limited spaces.
