A cycloidal gear reducer, also known as a cycloidal drive or cycloidal speed reducer, is a type of mechanical gear system that provides high reduction ratios, compact size, and high torque output with minimal backlash. Cycloidal gear reducer is a mechanical transmission device that uses an eccentric shaft to drive a cycloidal disc within a fixed ring of pins. The disc follows a cycloidal motion path and engages multiple pins simultaneously, which distributes load across many contact points.

This cycloidal gear reducer uses an eccentric cam and a cycloidal disc. The disc has lobed teeth that roll against fixed ring pins. No tooth sliding occurs. Input rotation moves the eccentric cam. My cycloidal reducer lost position accuracy after a shock load. Can I reset it?

No. The shock load bent the pin carrier. Replace the carrier. No adjustment restores original accuracy.

Do this gearbox need a soft start motor?

No. RV Cycloidal Reducers handle full torque from zero speed. Soft start only reduces motor stress, not reducer stress.

Can I weld a broken output flange back onto the pin carrier?

Never. Welding heat draws temper from the carrier steel. The carrier cracks at the heat-affected zone within days.

Can I use a cycloidal reducer as a torque limiter?

No. RV Cycloidal Reducers transmit full torque until mechanical failure. Install a separate torque limiter coupling on the input side.
