Gear indexing drives, also known as indexing mechanisms or indexing drives, are mechanical systems designed to precisely control the rotation of a load or workpiece through predetermined increments. Gear Indexing Drives are commonly used in applications where accurate positioning and repeatability are essential, such as in machinery, automation, and robotics.

Technical Abstract of TallMan Robotics Gear Indexing Drives

This gear indexing drive uses gear train mechanics to produce intermittent rotary output. A starwheel mechanism converts continuous driver rotation into discrete output steps. The driver wheel carries a pin that engages radial slots on the output gear. A locking segment holds the output stationary between index motions.

FAQs about Indexing Cam

  • Does the gear drive lock during dwell?

Yes. A locking segment on the driver contacts the output gear arc. This prevents output rotation.

  • Do gear drives Cam Indexers need a brake motor?

No. The locking segment of this cam Indexer holds output position. Brake motors only needed for vertical loads.
