Rotary Motion/Cam Index Drives/

  • Product Details
  • Inquiry

Indexing cam gears are precision mechanical components that combine cam profiles with gear transmission to produce controlled intermittent rotary motion. A continuously rotating input drives a cam integrated with or coupled to a gear system, which guides followers to generate fixed angular displacement at the output.

Functional Overview of TallMan Robotics DT Indexing Cam Gears

This indexing cam gear pairs a cylindrical cam with a turret bearing follower wheels. The cam has a machined groove. The groove profile contains a rise, a dwell, and a fall segment. A full cam rotation produces one output index. The follower wheels ride inside the groove.

FAQs about DT Indexing Cam Gears

What does an indexing cam gear do?

It converts steady input rotation into a stop-start output motion. The cam groove forces the turret to index and then pause.

How do I mount the cam to the input shaft?

Use the taper lock bushing. Tighten the axial screws to 40 Nm. This compresses the bushing onto the shaft. No keyway is required.

What happens if a follower wheel seizes?

The cam groove of Indexing Cam Gears will grind a flat spot on the wheel. You will hear a scraping noise. Replace all follower wheels immediately. Do not run the gear.

How do I measure the output index accuracy?

Mount a dial indicator on a fixed stand. Touch the indicator tip against a turret tooth flank. Rotate the input one full turn. Record the tooth position.

How do I replace a worn follower wheel from Indexing Cam Gears?

Remove the turret from the housing. Press out the old bearing stud. Press in a new wheel assembly. Reinstall the turret with a 0.02 mm shim.

Why does the output bounce at the dwell start?

The preload adjustment of the Indexing Cam Gears is too loose. Tighten the screw by one quarter turn. Check the bounce with an accelerometer. Repeat until bounce stops.
