Linear Manipulators are precision electromechanical actuators that produce translational motion along a single axis. Its structure comprises a rigid extruded aluminum base, a linear guide system (recirculating ball bearings or crossed rollers), a drive mechanism (ball screw, lead screw, or linear motor), and a servo or stepper motor.

Key features of Linear Manipulators include high repeatability, adjustable stroke length, integrated position feedback (optical encoder), and modular mounting interfaces (T-slots, dowel holes). It supports specified payload, velocity, and acceleration. Sealing options (metal covers or bellows) protect against debris. Control is achieved via TRIO controller through servo motors of EtherCAT, Profinet.

A closer look at the technical aspects of TallMan Robotics Linear Manipulators

Linear Manipulator is a kind of linear motion device that replaces traditional oil pressure and cylinder with electricity, and generates push pull action by supplying power through controller. The motion of Linear Manipulators is linear, so the body of the actuator should be kept straight when it is installed.

Linear actuator provides safe, low noise and low pollution actions with accurate motion control. Compared with hydraulic system, Linear actuator has the following characteristics: easy installation, small volume, light weight, compact structure, convenient operation, high rigidity, because it has no pump or hose and other parts.

Linear Manipulators are also known as Linear modules, here we introduce our TMS150 Linear Modules for your projects.

FAQs about Linear Manipulators

  • What defines Linear Manipulators?
A single axis linear manipulator has one motor moving one carriage along one straight line. No second axis mounts on top. The entire unit works alone or as a building block for larger systems.
  • How does a single axis manipulator differ from a linear actuator?
No difference exists. Manufacturers use both names interchangeably. Single axis manipulator sounds more robotic. Linear actuator sounds more mechanical. Both mean the same product.
  • How do I protect Linear Manipulators from dust?
Install metal covers or rubber bellows over the exposed screw or belt. Use sealed linear guides with scrapers. Add positive air pressure inside the profile. Choose IP54 or IP65 rated units for dusty areas.
  • How long does a belt drive manipulator last before belt replacement?
A belt drive manipulator runs 15,000 to 20,000 hours before belt replacement. The belt teeth wear down gradually. Dust and heat reduce belt life. Replace immediately when you see cracks or hear skipping.
