Motorized Linear Stage

Motorized Linear Stage integrates a precision carriage, guide system, drive mechanism, and a factory-mounted motor into a single ready-to-use positioning device. The stage includes an integrated servo or stepper motor directly coupled to a ballscrew or leadscrew. A position encoder or limit switch set provides feedback. Motorized Linear Stage is a kind of linear sliding table, which is also called electric cylinder and linear module in industry. It is composed of linear sliding table and motor drive.

The automatic linear movement of the workpiece is driven by the motor. Through the combination of multi-directional axes, the motion actuator on the equipment is formed. FAQs about Motorized Linear Stage

• Does a motorized linear stage include a controller?

       Usually no. The stage includes the motor and encoder. You supply a separate motor driver or controller. Some manufacturers sell stage-plus-controller bundles. Read the product description carefully.

• How do I home a motorized linear stage?

       Most stages include a home sensor (optical or Hall effect). The controller moves the stage toward the sensor. Upon activation, the stage reverses to a precise index position. Homing takes 5-10 seconds.

• What mounting orientation works best?

       Horizontal mounting works for most applications. Vertical mounting requires a brake. Inverted mounting (stage upside down) needs special wipers to retain grease. Check the user manual before inverting.

• Can I synchronize two motorized stages for XY motion?

      Yes, mount one stage on top of the other. Bolt the lower stage’s carriage to the upper stage’s base. Ensure base alignment within 0.01 mm. Use two separate controllers or one dual-axis controller.

• How do I calculate the resolution of a motorized stage?

      Resolution = screw lead ÷ (encoder counts per revolution × microstepping). Example: 5 mm lead, 2000 encoder counts, 10 microsteps gives 5 ÷ (2000×10) = 0.00025 mm (250 nm). Larger lead reduces resolution.
