Servo Mechanical Indexers are sophisticated hybrid devices designed for precise positioning in industrial automation, combining the flexibility of servo motor control with the reliability of mechanical components.  This servo mechanical indexer combines a servo motor with a precision cam. The servo provides programmable motion profiles while the mechanical cam locks the output flange at fixed positions without electrical braking.

Technical Insight into TallMan Robotics Servo Mechanical Indexers

The servo mechanical indexer is a hybrid motion system that integrates a servo motor with a mechanical indexing mechanism to achieve precise intermittent positioning. The servo motor drives the input, while the cam or gear-based structure defines motion profiles.

FAQs about Servo Mechanical Indexers

Does a servo mechanical indexer need a holding brake?

No. The mechanical cam locks the output shaft mechanically. The servo motor can power off entirely during dwell.

What happens if servo power fails during indexing?

The mechanical cam stops the output shaft immediately. No free rotation occurs. The load holds position.

Can I change dwell time on the fly?

Yes. The servo drive accepts real time dwell adjustments. No mechanical changes required.

Can I run the indexer without a PLC?

Yes. The servo drive executes stand alone cam tables using digital inputs for start and stop commands.

Does the servo remember position after power loss?

Yes. Absolute encoder retains position without batteries. The drive restores the cam table on power up.
